SCA Chat
The SCA is sponsoring the annual Operation Turkey to help the Haymarket Food Bank. Please bring canned food, boxes of mashed potatoes, rice, beans, evaporated milk, pasta, cake and cookie mixes, diapers, baby food, etc. The class that collects the most will get a pizza party. AND if we meet our goal of 1,500 items, as voted on by the SCA members, we will have our Turkey Trot in the bus loop!
We are also sponsoring the annual One Warm Coat, in conjunction with Gainesville Pediatric Dentistry. We are collecting new and gently used (CLEAN) coats in all sizes. For more information on this program, you can visit www.onewarmcoat.org.
Bookfair Oct 16-20
Are you looking for a fun volunteer opportunity? If you have attended a volunteer training session (either last or this school year), join us for the fall bookfair. We are so excited to have Bookworm Central provide our books as they are a local company with a superb product. We need people to help set up, write out wish lists for the little ones, act as cashiers, and take down at the end. Please click the link to sign up for a time slot. https://bit.ly/MVESbookfair

School-Family Liaison Chat
Greetings, Marvelous Mountain View Families!
We enjoy seeing your children every day! Among appointments, illnesses, and vacations, absences can quickly accumulate and become excessive. In line with the Superintendent’s Attendance initiative to succeed academically, let us work together to develop good habits!
Call to action for parents or guardians who are willing and available to help Mountain View reinvigorate our early-level robotics program! First Lego League (FLL) is a Prince William County Schools-sponsored Robotics & STEM Initiative designed and supported to introduce and educate students in the concepts. Some requested aspects of need:
· Two to three parents, one each for programming, building, and students’ activities.
· Once-a-week meetings after school with students to learn and design projects for competition.
· Supervising and leading a team of eight to 10 students, grades 4 and 5.
· Materials and guidelines are provided.
· Some Saturday commitments near competition dates, and including actual competitions
If you are interested, please contact me at alleni@pwcs.edu or 703-754-4161.
Our Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) has begun! We are grateful to the dads and father figures who volunteer a little of their time to spend at Mountain View.

Impact Aid
The Impact Aid Survey is available in ParentVUE. Impact Aid is a federal education program that reimburses school districts for lost revenue and additional costs due to the presence of nontaxable federal property (such as military installations, Indian lands, national parks, national laboratories, and Veterans Affairs hospitals) in a community.
The U.S. Department of Education provides funding to our school division based on Impact Aid survey data, which is used for general purposes benefitting all schools. Please complete the survey! For more information, visit Impact Aid Survey

Counseling Chat
Hello and welcome back for another school year at Mountain View! This year, Ms. Potts has joined the counseling team with Ms. Lynn and Ms. Cole and will be working at MVES on Mondays and Fridays. Below you will find a bit of information and answers to some FAQ's when it comes to counseling!
School counselors provide monthly guidance lessons, small groups, and help students one on one during the school day! This year students will receive guidance lessons monthly with additional lessons added when time permits. Topics include bully prevention, academic skills, goal setting, problem solving, and more.
Our counseling department also offers small groups for students with topics similar to whole class lessons. These groups typically meet once a week during lunch for a few weeks, and topics vary depending on the needs of our students. Teachers, counselors, and parents can request that a student is in a small group. It is important to note that sometimes students ask if they can have lunch with the counselor for fun and often invite a friend or two to join. Please know if your child comes home saying they had lunch with a counselor, they are not in trouble, it's just fun! If your child is invited to be a part of a weekly small group, a permission slip will be sent home to get signed.
In addition to whole class guidance lessons and small groups, we also talk with students one on one if a student or a teacher requests. There are "I want to see the counselor" slips on the door of the counseling office and classroom for students to let us know they'd like to talk. Students that come to see the counselor are never in trouble! We will always call home if there is something important a parent should know about. Sometimes students that are involved in a situation but did not fill out a slip will come talk with us; we always make sure the student is ok with coming to our office. Getting a different perspective often helps us understand how to better help and allows the students to work through problems together!
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your school counselors! Fifth grade and Kindergarten concerns can be sent to Ms. Potts at pottsts@pwcs.edu and first, second, third, and fourth grade concerns can be sent to Ms. Lynn at lynnmc@pwcs.edu. We also can be contacted at (703)754-4161. We look forward to a great school year!

Parent Advisory Council
The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) serves to advise the Principal about community and school needs which affect our students. Together, we discuss and make decisions on the school's Continuous Improvement Plan, budget, test scores, and responses to parent surveys.
Last year, the council focused on increasing clubs and opportunities for students to participate in activities outside of the classroom. We also hosted two "Pause with the Principal" events where parents received information on the school's activities and had the opportunity to ask questions about a variety of topics.
The Advisory Council needs your input! If you have concerns, see a need, have a suggestion, or are pleased about something the school has done, please let us know. Join us for our next meeting via the Zoom link.
