Here is the latest article from our Journalism Club:
The Cougar Connection
Mountain View’s “Cougar Connection” news production is how important information is broadcasted to all students and staff. The Cougar Connection began over 20 years ago. Ms. Scott and Ms. Lewis are the adults that run the broadcast, while Ms. Fall helps to assist with the behind-the-scenes technology. The Broadcast Team is primarily run by fifth-grade students, who must audition for all roles on camera.
Some of the Broadcast Team members’ jobs on camera are anchors, meteorologists, and special reporters. There are also “back office” roles including producer, assistant producer, and operators to manage the camera, soundboard, teleprompter, and graphics. To be chosen for the Broadcast Team, students must demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and be well-spoken on camera. Fourth graders are also involved in the Mountain Movement segment, which helps students get moving and ready for the day!
The Cougar Connections is an important way Mountain View broadcasts information related to students’ activities, weather, and other important news at our school. All classes tune in everyday to watch the Cougar Connection, which keeps us informed about everything going on at Mountain View!
Sing-A-Long
Our Winter Holiday Sing-A-Long will be Wednesday, December 20th from 2:30-3:30. If possible, please plan any early dismissals for prior to this time, as it's challenging to pull students from this assembly. This is an event for students. We are not able to accommodate visitors. Songs include:
Here Comes the Snow, I Want to Be An Elf, All I Want for Christmas (Is my Two Front Teeth), Up on the Housetop, You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch, Winter Wonderland, This Holiday, Jingle Bells, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas, Jingle Bell Rock, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Let it Snow, Mele Kalikimaka, Dreidel Dreidel Song, Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, and Feliz Navidad
PALS
When we return from Winter Break, students will participate in the Mid-Year Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS). This assessment will take place between January 2nd and February 2nd. All students in grades K-2, and identified students in 3rd grade, will take the assessment.
Lunch Visitors
Due to the number of Winter Parties and the Sing-A-Long, we are not having lunch visitors the week before Winter Break. There are no slots available December 18-20.
Please remember to sign up for future dates if you are planning to have lunch with your child(ren) in the cafeteria. It is important that we have enough seats for visitors. MVES Families at Lunch
Winter Parties
We love winter and learning about the traditions and celebrations that happen in the chilly season! The week before winter break, classes will have winter parties. A BIG thank you to our room parents for organizing these fun events! Room parents are in the process of reaching out to families for any assistance needed. Similar to field trips, we can only have a certain number of volunteers assisting in our classrooms for our parties. Room parents will let you know if additional volunteers are needed. Please remember that volunteers must have gone through volunteer training and for safety and insurance purposes, younger siblings are not permitted in the building for these events.
