Veterans’ Day Walk of Honor
On Thursday, November 9th, Mountain View Elementary honored Veterans related to staff and students in a very special way. The Veterans were invited to the school to take part in a celebration called the Veteran’s Day “Walk of Honor.” This special event was organized by Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Chamberlain, Ms. Cole, and Mr. Ginnan. Guest speaker and United States Army Lieutenant General Paul Chamberlain honored Air Force Veteran and PTO Co-President Mike Emerson and School Counselor Donna Cole for their commitment and service to the military families at MVES.
The Veterans were treated to tributes from students as well. Each grade level visited the ceremony, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, singing patriotic songs, and reading special poems. Photographs were taken of the Veterans with their family members, and the Veterans were invited back to their child relatives’ classrooms after the ceremony.
The Mountain View “Walk of Honor” gave students and staff the opportunity to show gratitude to our amazing Veterans!

Inclement Weather and Code Orange
Early Release Due to Weather
In the event of an early closing due to inclement weather students will be sent home in the same manner as their current standing dismissal note.
Code Orange
PWCS has several options in place for dealing with inclement weather. Code Orange exists as one tool in the toolbox and may or may not be used. Emergency closures place a burden on families and are sought to be avoided to the greatest extent practicable. However, emergencies vary in scope and impact, and there may be times when an extended series of Code Red closures would negatively impact learning or a two-hour delay is insufficient. As such, having the Code Orange option is an alternative plan that has a clearly developed plan ahead of any emergency.
Visit the PWCS webpage, Inclement Weather Codes for more information. Also click the link on that page for FAQs, which provide answers to questions regarding weather-related events.
Info on Buses
Transportation’s Late Bus Notification web page is now available for parents. The page will list buses that will be late 15 minutes or more to start their run. Please feel free to refer to this link for updates:

Tamales on the School Lunch Menu in December!
As we enter the winter holiday season, the PWCS Food and Nutrition Department is excited to serve Cheese and Green Chile Tamales as a menu special in December! Tamales are commonly eaten during winter holiday celebrations, so come celebrate school lunch with us this December by enjoying a Cheese and Green Chile Tamale for school lunch! If you haven’t had a Tamale, or Tamal as it is pronounced in Spanish, then you are in for a treat! Tamales are made using masa harina (corn flour) to make a dough. The dough is filled with a variety of fillings, then wrapped in a corn husk or banana leaf, and steamed until the dough is solid. Tamales originated more than 7,000 years ago, and today are eaten in many countries in North, Central, and South America! Tamale fillings vary by culture and geographical region, but they all are delicious! At PWCS, we are going to be serving Vegetarian Tamales filled with cheese and green chiles for School Lunch on the following dates:
Elementary Schools: Tuesday, December 5th
Middle Schools: Tuesday, December 12th
High Schools: Wednesday, December 6th or 13th

Lunch Visitors
Please remember to sign up if you are planning to have lunch with your child(ren) in the cafeteria. It is important that we have enough seats for visitors. MVES Families at Lunch
Due to the number of Winter Parties and the Sing-A-Long, we are not having lunch visitors the week before Winter Break. There are no slots available December 18-20.
Winter Parties
We love winter and learning about the traditions and celebrations that happen in the chilly season! The week before winter break, classes will have winter parties. A BIG thank you to our room parents for organizing these fun events! Room parents are in the process of reaching out to families for any assistance needed. Similar to field trips, we can only have a certain number of volunteers assisting in our classrooms for our parties. Room parents will let you know if additional volunteers are needed. Please remember that volunteers must have gone through volunteer training and for safety and insurance purposes, younger siblings are not permitted in the building for these events.
